Please spead the word if you wish – as this is just a suggestion. We don’t what you out there preaching the word of Phantom, just , ” Hey check this out” would be great.

  1. Man, I’m loving this. I’ve already opened an account, thanks to you all there.

I must say; I’ ve been putting out the word of the game-store for those at Gaming Universe, and they’ve been many views/hits on the link that I’ve posted; however, I’ve been met with much consternation and outright hostility there by some I suspect are site moderators aching to boot me off just for mentioning any thing Phantom related. But it’s certainly worth it to me, as a foot soldier, in a great cause for gaming; just to inform the inquisitive and curious. I must warn you though; this place isn’t for any reasonable discussion on the Phantom at all; although I may have been the cause for this state of affairs there, with my frequent chiming in on the company’s progress, for which I apologize for. 2. Very cool-classy NKJ B-).

  3. Hey, This looks promising. I’ve been using Steam for sometime and they have a great format. One suggestion. I think there should be a DEMO link. Keep up the good work.

  4. Great work!! Gamestore looks fantastic! Congrats on everything up to this point. So happy to see all the naysayers finally proven wrong and that the current management team is taking this so seriously. Looking forward to the streaming and the next shipment of lapboards!

  5. Thanks for the bit about “preaching the word of Phantom.” We don’t need any flame wars like the days of old, that just makes things worse. Just let people know it’s there and let them say what they say. The product will convince people more than words πŸ˜‰

  6. Has anyone tried the demos on some of the games, my antivirus software is dectected the file as a virus after i run it, please try and see how it works for you, and let Jim know!

  7. I was able to download several demos and they all went fine. I use avast! antivirus, no problems with the downloader app being detected as a virus. I also did a full purchase on one of the cheapy games (3.99 Grimm title), and that went perfectly fine as well πŸ™‚

  8. I downloaded a Ghosts n’ Goblins demo and had no difficulties; I’m running ZoneAlarm. Anybody tried running a bigger game like Gears of War yet?

  9. Ok, that thread I posted on cheapassgamer.com (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5251010#post5251010)
    already has two responses:
“i don’t see anything on here about a free game”

I think people are going to be skeptical until they see a notice on the site itself. Might want to get ready for a flood of e-mails asking about the offer.

  10. Just sent Joystiq.com a link to the game store. Joystiq is one of the top gaming blogs. We’ll see. Naturally, I’m expect the usual skepticism, but at least now there is a lapboard and game downloads!

  11. Great new stuff! Lets hope the stock price reflects the changes!

  12. Kotaku just found the game store πŸ™‚

Kotaku is another huge gaming blog like Joystiq

  13. yeah they found the game store and company now go look at the blogs and how pretty much every thinks this company is fake and theres no trust. So what is the suppose CEO gonna do with all this negative feedback. To me this is hard to over come, i guess if they ever show earning and rev on the market and get listed off the pinks, then will know there real. im sorry but you all seem excited maybe you know something i dont but theres a very long road ahead to trust. will all wait and see wont we! i hope im dead wrong but im just remaining even keel.

  14. I did read the posts, and it’s pretty much the same as it’s always been. Certainly the road ahead will be hard, especially with Phantom’s past, and people I think are justified in being skeptical, including yourself. Just keep in mind that not everyone reading Kotaku is also posting. Also, we’re excited because the company is making a very good turn for the better here. Product is being manufactured and sold and the game store is up and running with tons of games available. This is a first for Phantom!

The negative group-think that you see on Kotaku does not represent the whole of the gaming community, and certainly not consumers at large. Not everyone who would be interested in what Phantom offers is like the people you read on there. Every once in a while you’ll actually find someone brave enough to go against the negative group-think of the herd and write a post to say that they’re actually interested. But you’re right, there’s a ton of negativity out there, and it keeps most people silent and probably disinterested. But I think there are still enough people out there willing to give Phantom wares an honest look. That’s what will establish the company, not the bashers on Kotaku or Joystiq or RagingBull or wherever.

Just think if Phantom can get the lapboard to retail. Average Joe consumer doesn’t know anything about Phantom, Kotaku, or the gaming scene in general. They’ll see a useful product.

  15. Yes, as Phantom Entertainment marches toward productivity most of this negative sensational rhetoric will subside. All they should concentrate on is moving their business along and produce revenue. And the past will become irrelavent.

I see a great holiday season this year for them, as well as for the next quarter, with the release of their next batch of Lapboards.

    Money is coming…

  16. So far I see IGN CrunchGear have chimed in. There are 22 copies in all, at this time.

  17. Nice. 24 now actually πŸ˜‰

  18. Eh, slightly wrong link on that last one. It cuts off the top paragraph:

Sorry for all the posts guys, I feel like I’m trolling here. Just trying to keep up and help out πŸ˜‰

  19. see the stock today down .0002

  20. At least the stock cannot go lower.

  21. Lol, heh heh… (nervous laugh). I’m not trying to be negative, that just struck me as funny πŸ™‚

  22. The gamestore is undergoing some up-grading maintenance to the site and servers, at the moment: 15:58 Nov 16 2008 PST

  23. I see news of the Phantom Gamestore is starting to take hold See these @

Remember The Phantom? The purported game console that c. 2005 unseated Duke Nukem Forever as shorthand for “vaporware”? Well, those guys now have a digital game distribution system, and they’re selling a bunch of AAA titles there. … And very funny story @ http://tinysubversions.blogspot.com/2008/12/phantom.html

  25. Wow, let’s give them a chance. This stuff looks great, and compared to the last several years, this is wonderful… If you have just decided to hold on to the stock and see what happens, you may be pleasantly surprised in the near future. What do we have to loose, if you sell your stock now, you may have a write off on your taxes, but you will not reap the rewards to come. Anyway this is my positive side, and things are looking good to me. I’m not an avid investor and I don’t know all about business like this, but I feel good about this turn of events. Hey you guys, keep up the great stuff, keep everyone up to date as much ass possible, people will invest again…

    Thank you…

  26. Not to get ahead of anything, but it would be so cool to see the phantom console come back. I hope that’s the endgame here πŸ˜‰ I really think that would tap an entirely separate market. The I-don’t-want-to-configure-it-just-make-it-run-games market πŸ™‚

    Things are looking good! Progress!

  27. Several positive comments in these forums:

See, people are willing to give Phantom an honest look. I think we’ll see more of that so long as Phantom has staying power.

  28. I disagree with the resurrection of the console, don’t get me wrong… I loved the idea when it was originally unveiled. However, I think that it would be a disastrous diversion of resources at this point. It may have succeeded at the time, but now the big players in console gaming have started to offer direct download games through their own networks (i.e. Xbox Live), combine this with the fact that Microsoft and Sony (both multi billion dollar behemoths) lose money on every console sold in order to obtain a “critical mass” status, it’s hard for me to imagine a good outcome there. No big loss though, we’re seeing more multi-PC households and people are moving their PCs into their living room, using them with their HDTVs. So there is still value in the lapboard, and the game service is open to anyone with a PC rather than just those who bought a console. I think in order for the console to work would be for it to be cheaper than graphics and processing hardware costs would allow, and easy enough to pick off a shelf at walmart and plug in. I think that most gamers are inclined enough to figure out the PC/HDTV/Lapboard combo though, remember many of us had to blow into the business end of our NES games for up to 30 minutes before we could play. lol.

  29. Hmmm, you’re right about the console costs, except for the Wii. I wasn’t implying by the way, that the console should be the next priority, I don’t think resources should be put to anything but getting a stable game store/lapboard at this point.

I think the feasibility of the console would be dependent on how it was approached. I don’t believe that the majority of people who would go for it would care that it didn’t have the absolute latest graphics chip. Think about it, most people who care about tweaking and having the cutting edge stuff would roll their own PC anyway. That would land it somewhere between the Wii and 360 as far as competition.

It would have to be approached from the beginning with the idea that the console had to be made inexpensively enough so that it wouldn’t lose money, like Nintendo did with the Wii. It’s not a powerhouse, but it doesn’t have to be because it’s aimed at a different market. Give it just enough power to run some of the recent games with reasonable quality, but more than enough to run everything else very well. Remember it’s the game service that’s being pushed, not really the hardware, and the vast majority of games on the service don’t need bleeding edge graphics hardware.

    My two cents πŸ™‚

  30. The demos that i have tried work pretty good once u get the settings right. I am so happy that the site is up and running. Great job!

  31. (sigh) guess that’s what I get for cheerleading, lol:

I encourage everyone not to get into heated debates over this stuff. It’s not worth any stress. People will believe what they believe, and most have every right to be very skeptical of Phantom. If I say anything at all I just try to be concise, factual, and not do any name-calling or belittling, which can be kinda hard πŸ˜›

I’m not “preaching the word,” I just like the ideas this company has πŸ˜‰ so I speak up sometimes.

  32. The servers are down. Something’s happening here. Could it be?

  33. Noticed that too. Probably gearing up the updated site, working out the kinks.

  34. as some interviews with John, he says the site will be up in few days, if not it just proves that its just another hype thing

  35. what are some of the prices to the store when it gets up running again?
